Fast racing, tight margins, and full commitment. The SEA Games dinghy competitions reached their conclusion today with high-tempo finals across Optimist, ILCA, and 470 classes. Medals were decided in shifting conditions and rising pressure, as Asia’s best young and elite sailors pushed hard to the finish at Dongtan Bay in Chonburi.
Across the dinghy classes, fleets closed out their SEA Games campaigns with decisive races and disciplined execution. Thailand continued to set the pace on home waters, while Singapore and Malaysia confirmed their depth across both youth and senior fleets. Every race mattered. Every point counted. Thailand secured four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, reinforcing its position at the top of the sailing standings.
Consistency wins championships
Thailand topped the podium in the Mixed 470 with Navee Thamsoontorn and Nichapa Waiwai taking gold, ahead of Malaysia’s Muhammad Fauzi Kaman Shah and Juni Karimah Noor Jamali, and the Philippines’ Edgar Villapaa and Jonalyn Parocha. Thamsoontorn will return to the water tomorrow as part of SSL Team Thailand in the SEA Games keelboat class. In the Optimist fleets, Singapore’s Ethan Han Wei Chia claimed gold in the boys’ class, while Thailand’s Pailin Jaroenpon secured the girls’ title. The ILCA classes delivered standout performances, with Singapore taking gold in Women’s ILCA6 through Jania Ang and Men’s ILCA7 through Jun Han Ryan Lo. Malaysia’s Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy, captain of SSL Team Malaysia, finished second in Men’s ILCA7, as Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia shared podium places across ILCA4, ILCA6, and ILCA7.
As of 14 December, Thailand leads the overall SEA Games medal table with 99 gold medals, ahead of Indonesia. Congratulations to all medal winners and teams!
