Puerto Rico completes the line-up of Group H in the race for a place in the SSL Gold Cup Finals. Bringing together Olympic sailors, regional champions and a crew with plenty of international experience, Puerto Rico is ready to take on Uruguay, Venezuela and Antigua in a highly competitive battle for qualification.

Leading the team is captain Ramón González, a 33-year-old sailor with a competitive background. A medallist at the Central American and Caribbean Games, where he secured both silver and bronze medals, González brings valuable experience and leadership to the crew. His role will be crucial in guiding Puerto Rico through the challenges of Group H.

The team also features strong Olympic credentials. Pedro Fernández, an ILCA 7 sailor who competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, takes on the role of main trimmer. His experience at the highest level of single-handed sailing brings an important understanding of boat speed, wind conditions and tactical decision-making to the team.

Another key member is Gretchen Ortiz, who represented Puerto Rico at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the Nacra 17 class, finishing 17th. Her Olympic background and experience in high-performance multihull sailing add another valuable dimension to the crew.
Regional success is also a defining feature of this team. Many of Puerto Rico's sailors have earned medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, demonstrating the depth of sailing talent within the squad. That shared experience of competing for international honours could prove especially important as the pressure builds in the fight for qualification.

For Puerto Rico, the journey to the SSL Gold Cup Finals is a chance to show the strength of Caribbean sailing on the world stage.
